BRS Tamani is the first Panicum maximum hybrid made by Embrapa, resulting from a crossing held in Embrapa Gado de Corte in 1992. It presents characteristics such as a short build, high production of high nutritional value leaves (high brute protein content and digestibility), productivity, vigor, easy handling and resistance to pasture leafhoppers.
Its high quality and adaptation makes it recommended for bovine cattle fattening, especially in semitropical biomes (cerrado), being an option for pasture diversification in well-drained soils.
It also presents good results in Amazon and Atlantic forests, but is not suitable for areas that are subject to flooding, even temporary, because it presents low tolerance to soil waterlogging. In low temperature environments, it displays more persistence than cvs Masai and Tanzania, and similar to cv Mombassa. This technological solution was developed by EMBRAPA in partnership with other institutions.
